what is the environmental impact of cut flower imports in Spain?
At Gradyflor, we are committed to sustainable and responsible cut flower imports. Although it may seem otherwise, the environmental impact of importing flowers is minimal. Imported flowers travel on commercial aeroplanes, in specific compartments, making use of available space without generating additional flights. This allows us to optimise the carbon footprint for each flight.
Furthermore, our flowers come from Colombia and Ecuador, countries with exceptional climatic conditions for cultivation. Unlike greenhouses in Europe, which require intensive heating, crops in South America are grown with minimal energy consumption, significantly reducing the environmental impact.
Flower production in Colombia and Ecuador: low footprint and high quality
Greenhouses in Colombia and Ecuador have a very low carbon footprint thanks to the favourable climate, which allows year-round cultivation without relying on artificial heating or lighting systems.
At Gradyflor, we work with farms that are committed to the environment. They implement good agricultural practices, make efficient use of water and other natural resources, and have their own laboratories that monitor the quality and sustainability of the production process.
